To grow the journalism community, we must teach it ourselves

Shaban Athuman and I met over a decade ago, when I led a journalism workshop for high school students. As we talked about his journey, it became clear that we need more of these programs now — when trust in journalism is fractured — to grow our community of journalism consumers and possibly, to inspire future journalists.
